Cambodia's Capital

The day before yestderday I took a bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital city. Im Staying in a district called lakeside, which is as you would imagine, beside a lake. The guest house I am in partially stretches over the lake, and has some nice hammocks and a killer view of the sundown over some of Phnom Penh's cityscape.

Phnom Penh is a much bigger city than Siem Reap, its a very noisy, busy full on South East Asian capital city, and has some of the most important sights in Cambodia's more recent history. Far from the peaceful temples built thousands of years ago, Phnom Penh province is home to the killing fields of Choeung Ek, and the Toul Sleng Security Prison 21, or S-21 as its better known, and its where I visited yesterday. Scenes of some of the most horrific happenings in the last 40 years, these places are both captivating and gut wrenching at the same time. I won't give you any details because the whole thing is too horrible, but google Khmer Rouge or one other above names if you would like more details. No photos this post because the computer is too slow, sorry everyone! Tomorrow I head into Vietnam to Ho Chi Minh city and from there over the next 16 or 17 days I will make my way up the coast of Vietnam and then into Laos for a few days, then into Thailand to meet Ashleigh.
